Teacher Capabilibity

The concept of capability refers to an integration of confidence in one's knowledge, skills, self-esteem and values. So, It is not only getting knowledge, it is how we can apply that knowledge in a real context. When we talk about a capable people, we refer to not only if they know about their specialisms; they also have can take effective and appropriate action, explain what they are about, live and work effectively with others and continue to learn from their experiences.

In Education, capalibility also is developed by how learn students and how teach teachers. Both of them, students and teachers are able to be a capable person. However, the work of the teachers is to create an environment in the classroom  where the students have the opportunity for constructing their own learning. 

In Chilean System, it does not occur. most of the teachers are a technician persons, they only think in passing content and do not worry about how the students learn. Due to this, we must transfom in teacher reserchers because we will need to investigate the best way for teaching.

Interview

 What are your own perception about teachers?

Tomas: According to my personal opinion, teachers are in charge of the most wonderful and laborious responsibility which is TEACH, GUIDE AND MAKE GROWTH students.
In spite of the clear disadvantage that they face, in terms of salary, classroom conditions, schedules, etc.
It is the professionalism and vocation that appear and overcome.
Teaching is one of the most valuable and priceless activity that every human being would ever be part of.


Cody: I believe nearly all have good intentions... They all want to help, they all want the students to learn. I don't think any teach for the money because there is none or very little in the teaching field. However many that i have observed or heard about from fellow volunteers have a few faults. I don't know if you can blame the teachers exaclty or if you need to blame the students, the families, the education system, or just the culture in general. However a few of the things i noticed were the students were very disrespectful to the teacher and to their classrooms. The students talked much of the time, rarely did homework or class work, left the classroom very messy etc. I believe this indicates that either the teacher lets the students get away with things like this or that they can't handle/manage the classroom.

ME: I consider the work as a teacher in Chilean society is not valued as it should be. Teachers should be more considerate because they have a mission and a direct repercussion on educate a person, knowing that person will be part of a society, and also part of the world in which we live. I think one of the biggest problems on recruiting teachers is because they are not paid as they should and moreover, talking about keeping them in the system because it is the same,  it is so much the work that they do, in the absence of support they suffer disenchantment in other words, they lose their vocation as teachers.

Old and New Paradigm in Education

Today´s education is based on different kinds of paradigms. When we listen to the terms old paradigm and new paradigm what we can understand about them. these two terms have some biggest differences. In which way they vary? In order to give you some answers, we are going to write about them.


The old paradigm in education can be defined by some factors. the first one is the knowledge. it is transferring from teacher to student. Teachers know everything and student just listen to him. Because of that, the students are passive cups to be filled by faculty’s knowledge. And also, they are classified by their marks. according to relationships in the classroom (student-student, teacher-student, i can say that it is impersonal. Another factor is the context, in the old school, the context is based on competition and promote the individualism. and finally, the teachers must be a mastery of their subject and obviously contents.


On the other hand, the new paradigm is totally different, in all of factors. For example, the knowledge is constructed by the students and the teacher. For that reason the students is a constructor, discoverer and transformer of own learning. The purpose is not just getting a good mark but it is developed competences according to their abilities. Learning is a personal transaction among students and between teachers and students as they work together. Ignoring the context of competition and focuses on the cooperation between students. Teaching is assumed to be a complex application of theory and research that requires considerable teacher training and continuous refinement of skills and procedures (Johnson, Johnson, & Holubec, 1998).


The differences are evident and make us think about what paradigm we want to use for teaching. Because we can not stay in the old school. We must make a change in education systems.

What should they do?

Goverment should paid extra bonus for the job that the teachers do.
Parents should appreciate and support the work of the teachers.
Students should take more seriously their education.
Teachers should be more positive about teaching.
Principles should give more support teachers work. If they want to do a change (new techniques, travels,...) principles should allow it.
Bussinessman should be appart from education because it is not a bussiness.
Law makers should improve chilean laws in reference with educational system.

Future Arrangement

Camila and Claudio are in love each other. when they finish this course,in 2022, they are traveling to Valdivia. They are getting to there by car. They are doing everything there because they want to live there, for instance they are working, walking, visiting museums, driking typical beer. also, because of that they are staying there the whole life. camila and claudio have decided that they are going with Camila`s mom.

Changing Education Paradigms

Ken Robinson on his video "Changing Education Paradigms" talk about some educational problems that we are dealing with in today´s world. He challenges educational paradigms with which many of us have grown, he also shows us that the times are different and undergoing constant changes. Because of that, he urges us to innovate in terms of education, transforming education from a 19th century industrial model into a 21st century.

According to Robinson, the first problem that we can find is the purpose of education showing to children because getting a title is not a guarantee of success. As a teachers and parents we should explain to children that they should study for knowing and discovering about what they want to do in the future. The point is how they will know their likes, their interests if they do not have the knowledge of different areas, such as math, arts, language, etc. they should be aware of their alternatives to choose the best for their lives.

In concordance with Robinson, the major problem is that the current education system was designed, conceived and structured to a different age. We have to transform and innovate it. It can not continue to teach with books and blackboards  because children are not interested in boring stuff. Everything is evolving and education should not be left behind. Along with this problem can be added the attentional deficits experienced by children today and is caused by the same, the boring way of teaching. We can start investigating what they are interested with, as well are the ITCs. It is a fact there is no such thing as an epidemic of attention deficit. It false illness is pretended to cover their fault causing children are medicated and passing through the school process without realizing it. But the truth is that they have not changed the tendency of teaching and for that reason they are distracted.

To conclude, as Ken says in his video. We must think differently about the human capacity, we have to overcome the old conception, on the academic and nonacademic, abstract, theoretical, vocational, and see that it is a myth. As future teachers, we should become researchers and our task will be to use the context in which our future students will live by seeking the particularity because not all students learn in the same way. In addition, we will have to discover how make the students can learn through the things that they are interested, from my point of view, that would be a biggest change for education system.
